Don't know if this helps, but I bought a Leki Sierra hiking pole
that can double as a monopod. It's reasonably lightweight, though
doesn't telescope down to as short a length as most photographic
monopods. However, if you go hiking it may be of value.

What's with the rumors about the D30 now being unavailable? What will
happen to the pricing now that the rebate period is concluded?
Just when I'm nearing a time when I can bite the bullet and go digital, the
product line changes. Something new available soon??

I've decided to bite the bullet and go with L glass, so I'm selling my
1.5-plus-year-old Sigma 70-200 2.8 APO EX HSM.
This lens is rated nearly as good as the Canon version (3,9 versus 4,1), at a
much cheaper price. My lens is optically and mechanically excellent, having
returned from Sigma servi
Well Im considering buying an 80 200 2.8L for my EOS 1. I know that this
lens does not not work with the current L converter built by Canon. Photodo
rates this lens at a 4.2, but how much will it suffer if you put a 2x
converter behind it? Is there a way to get a simular rating with a
converter

It's apparently not easy to incorporate a usable DoF scale on
I've decided that I really need a lightweight monopod, and now I
need some advice. It looks as though there are three 'pods that
fill the bill: Slik 380, Bogen 3449, and Gitzo G1568.
Any experience and/or opinions? What makes the Gitzo sell for
about US$100 more than the US$120 Slik and Bogen?
Hi,
There is a worrying misunderstanding that DEP and A-DEP mode are calculated
using Circle of Confusion and Depth-of-field data.
The modes are apparently implemented using defocus information at the sensor
plane, and use a "guestimate" that the best DOF occurs at 7/17 between the

What many of you seem to be forgetting in the latest edition of this thread
is that A-DEP mode is basically provided for use with zoom lenses, on which
it is virtually impossible to incorporate DoF scales.
Also it is clear that others don't really understand why or how A-DEP does
what it does. T

Simple: They want you to buy what they are selling, not what you saw
