it may depend on the individual lens. i have the 28-135 IS, and i have
noticed that when i use it tripod mounted there are some irregularities, but
they haven't affected picture quality. what i did observe was that at the
point when autofocus was achieved the whole picture jerked
i'm trying to figure out how to manually (not using the dep function on my
elan II) focus to incorporate hyperfocal distances with my 28-135IS. as far
as i can tell, the distance window isn't scaled to show focus distances for
different f stops.

I think we need to distinguish between AI Servo which allows for constant
refocusing (focus priority) and Predictive AF which actually uses a computer
to chart subject speed and direction which enables it to calculate where the
