someone, but I don't know how to search exactly, so I need to scan through
the messages from that person on date order.

it does not get narrower. However, there are still lots of space between
most of the useful folder names & the border.

I'm using Ubuntu 13.10. Using Evolution self compiled master built by
jhbuild is a bit problematic, due to dbus, etc and the too many packages it
pulls through when building Evo.
Therefore, I can give a try to different distributions.

I'm dismissing a reminder for a calendar meeting. The dismiss action takes
a few seconds. In outlook, it's instant. I guess this is something to do
with contacting the server for confirmation before the event is dismissed.

I generally have 1500-2000 emails in my inbox before I archive them,
and as part of my daily email activity at work, I depend a lot on
email search.
I'm using Thunderbird & Outlook, what I do in Thunderbird is using the
GmailUI/ExpressionSearch add-on. With this add-on, I can do searches
like
