We are running Exch 5.5 sp4 on a mix of 2k sp1 and nt4 sp6.
We have a couple of dual processor nt4 sp6 boxes in the DMZ with port 25
from outside open to them only. These servers have Trend InterScan Virus
Wall and Trend InterScan E-Manager for Virus protection and
content/attachment filtering.

I used to check the last login date and anything not logged into for some
time would be marked for deletion. Once Exchange antivirus software was
installed this no longer worked. Antigen and Trend both use the service
account to login to the IS to scan all mailboxes every time the services
start
for future reference. You can run the perfwiz in verbose mode and it will
give you manu more options than normal (probably about 50 or more). I
suggest checking it out on a test box first. the command is perfwiz -v.

u create a user you add them to the containers that you
want that could be used in 3 or 4 DL's and they would update
"automatically". Other than that, a DL is the administrators job to
maintain. It can't think for you...

One other thing that may be of note, If you are running 5.5 enterprise
edition and need to install OWA you will need to rename the exe to setup.exe
from srvmin.exe or srvmax.exe. Otherwise it will not let you install OWA on
Win2K. Straight from MS's mouth.

As long as new users are added to existing DLs once a week through a backend
process the company will not have nearly as many users missing mass
distributions. I just did an export and there are 350 mailboxes that are
not members of any DL. This tool will be of great benefit.

You can remove the smtp address from it's properties. That way out side
senders will not be able to send to it.

without cleaning the mailbox, the store never dumps the mailbox data. Is

Yep, that worked in my environment. As soon as the import completed I
checked the store and neither the mailbox nor it's store were there unlike
if I were to just deleted the mailbox in the Admin. Thanks for the tip.
