Running Exchange 2003 on one server. About to add a server to the
existing domain. We own another domain and would like to setup a
separate mail box and email accounts under the same exchange server. Is
that possible? What would you guys recommend?

Shared SMTP address space... GW will have to know where the owner of the

The others have given you some solutions.
Here's what I'd do: Build a box (perhaps a VM) using postfix and a
script that pulls email address from both GW and Exchange, and let it
route the emails. But, to make this worth your time to implement it,
you'd probably also want to make it an

After speaking with the project lead, and getting a little more clarification,
your solution sounds more like what he's looking for.
Incoming mail hits the SMTP relay box.
SMTP relay box queries Groupwise/ldap to find recipient.
If recipient is not found, the SMTP relay then tries the Exchange
I would suggest not doing live queries via ldap, for one particular
reason: DoS by dictionary attack. Whether that's much of a concern
depends on how robust your AD and GW infrastructure are, and how big
your incoming pipe is.
Updating recipient maps hourly should take care of your needs.
Thanks for the help, Kurt. Do you mind if I ping you offlist, for any further
details?

Certainly. But, for the benefit of others, I'll point out this, which
