So, most of my public folder replication issues in going from 2003 to 2010 seem
to be caused by things like a folder showing two sets of items with a category
of none.
I can fix it folder by folder by changing all these items to a random category
then clearing it, but that doesn't really scale
Have you taken a look at pfdavadmin and seen if it can help?

Been there done that, thanks though. From talking to Bill Long on his Technet
blog site it seems it's a fairly common issue we're facing - somehow items
(mostly contacts) get their category corrupted
Yep, bottom of the comments, that's me where he says his script can't fix it :(
