If this is a USB sidewider that you are talking about, try modprobe
joydev.
Also:
rm /dev/js0
ln -s /dev/input/js0 /dev/js0
might make life a bit easier.
Hope this helps. By the way, can anyone tell me how to calibrate said
joystck?

'make -f Makefile.linux' alone
I am running Mandrake 8, with fvwm2 as a window manager and no Gnome or KDE.
I'm trying to compile/run xmame and need joystick support, but can't figure out
how to get it.
harddrake shows a line for joysticks, but if I click on it nothing happens.

I believe you'll need to try 'kisocdII', and no, the tarball compile
failed as did various rpms.
tske a look at 'koncd' ( http://www.koncd.de/ )

Dear friends:
For whatever it's worth: A member of the KDE list has just pointed out to me
that the return address in Kmail, my default email program, for the past

Has anyone had any luck installing a kisocd rpm on Mandrake 8.0 and, if so,
where did you get it. I tried to use kisocd-0.6.4-4.i386.rpm from rpmfind to
no avail. I keep getting:

i've a lot of problems with LM8 and cdrecord.
Some weeks ago i bought a ATAPI Acer cdrw, and tried to record some
cd's. Cdrecord always produced errors, so i thought the recorder was broken
and i took back. I changed the cdrw with another acer. Tried this, same

Hi *,
I've been fiddling with lm-sensors 2.5.5 recently to try to get it to
work. I'm using Mandrake 7.2. I was using version 2.4.2 which does have
better support for sensors devices, and patched up to 2.4.5 (but that
didn't work - I got a 'ran out of input data, system halted' message, so

Does anyone know if it is possible to cross-compile linux/unix apps for cisco
routers? I have a cisco 675 DSL router and would like to try to compile a
couple apps to be runnable on the router but have no idea as to how to go
about this.

A couple questions...
I selected medium security when I installed Mandrake 8.0. My root mailbox
fills up, seemingly as a result, with security auditing messages about world
writeable files being found:

libintl1-0.10.38-1mdk
all three linuxconf-1.25r7-1mdk packages.
So these are the culprits which are killing rpm drake and rpm i

Is swap really in use? Here at home (same config as yours), it's not.

On the Windows machine, where you did fdisk /mbr? You might try loadlin, or
you might go the easy way, and use a boot loader like GRUB
