I want to try install glib-2.1.2 as the default in my Mandrake 6.1 system,
because it is required by jdk1.2.2-linux-rc3. But I am very very nervous
about doing that, fearing the whole system could be screwed. So I am
seeking the advices on doing this from people have done this glib
replacin
Anyone there tell me how to use javac in Madrake 6.1? No matter how I
invoke it, javac always gives

I have tried a couple of times to use the rescue floppy disk (produced
by the first installation). The panic message says something like "No init

What I did is:
boot it from the rescue floppy
type "rescue" for the first prompt

The kernel I compiled of the src with Mandrake 6.1 CD is always not
working properly, either freezing when "Finding module dependencies"
occurs or crashing when runing. I suspect that the new modules screws up
the existing ones there, but I'm not quite sure. Should I delete all the
