Hi,
This is interesting. I have set my BROWSER variable to /usr/bin/opera in my
/etc/X11/Xsession file and printenv shows it set as both my BROWSER and
HELP_BROWSER yet whenever I am in Window Maker and click on a URL or use the
Help it opens in Konqueror.
What other setting
Hi,
Using a default Linux kernel that comes with a fresh install of Mandrake 8.1
what do I need to modify to stop the system from disabling the sound when the
PC goes into "sleep mode"?
Right now, using Window Maker, I have no applications running other than

Hi,
Anyone switch to the newer version of Netscape? Just curious as to your
thoughts on whether there was any reason to upgrade to 6.1 from 4.78?
TIA. Cheers.

Hi Everyone,

configuration use for:
Notify (sound) program
Mail fetch/check program

Any ideas/suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance. Cheers.
Hi Everyone,
Q. In the process of upgrading to KDE 2.2 on my Mandrake 8.0 system, I
defined a new source for the downloaded rpm files and now for some reason,
which I can't decipher, I am unable to run the Software Manager. How do I
remove the new source via the command line?

Hi Everyone,
Quick question -- I have an HP DeskJet 870Cse printer that CUPS sets up
with a 600X600 resolution that I need to reconfigure for 600x300. This is fine
for high quality black but the colour setting maxes out at 600X300.
Since I don't wish to waste ink I would
I think the ultimate feature is a very easy to use NETWORK
APPLIANCE.
Customize a couple of buttons that make the OS really easy
to use with just a flick of the switch.
I've tried some dedicated server hosting and these people do
some pretty nifty configs to a plane RedHat and makes it

I use SANE with GIMP.
But the GIMP does not have an "acquire" option in the menu
which should fire up SANE for scans to directly go to GIMP!
I want nice, pretty fonts!
-Netscape in Linux should look as good as windoze.
-Fonts should be easy to install like windoze.
-Install many by default which should be usable by
staroffice, etc.
I want Mandrake to autodetect SCSI better.
If it cannot detect, it should show the available options on
what to type for each device to help the user.
What I do now is go to another machine, open the kernel scsi
files and look for the options.

It's not a lock. You just forgot to turn on lpd.
Use your setup tool and turn it on by default.
Don't get me wrong,
I LOVE Mandrake!
In fact,
I'm running MDK 7.0 at home, (w/ scanner!)
MDK 7.0 in one office desktop
MDK 6.1 in 4 server / desktops
RH 6.0 in 1 server
RH 6.2 in 1 desktop
This is constructive criticism for MDK7.0
I absolutely adore MDK6.1 (the best!)

I'm working on a project.
I've got a DOMAIN.COM
Now I want 3rd level domains,
using Apache Name-Based Virtual Hosts:
I made: ANYTHING.DOMAIN.COM
I do not operate my own DNS.
My provider says it should work.
I want the same effect as bigstep.com...
... you know: yourcompany.bigstep.com

I got the RPMs.
Just do it! ( you really need it.)
rpm -i ssh*
That's it.
Do your slogin -l user host.domain.com

I'm new to this webmastering thing.
I can put webpages in my /home/httpd/html directory by going super user.
But it's really a drag... upload to an uploads dir or user dir, then telnet, then
manually copy to /home/httpd/html/newdir.
Man, this sucks.
There must be a better way than that.
