Why not? If there is a security bug hidden somewhere it better be made
public quickly, so somebody is going to fix it and somebody else is
going to validate the fix. And, in the meantime, you will be aware of it
and might decide to take some action.

I (and many others) have had the same probles you describe, which was
due to a bad installation.
One correct installation procedure was posted by James_H_Covington on
the Mandrake Club (and also, but later, summarized by Mandrake in a
Mandrake Club web page).
I will quote part of James' messa

I've had no luck either with the Mandrake Club downloaded version. I am
able to start all the SO applications, but they all crash when I try to
open any MS document.
There has been some talk on this on the MDK Club, it seems (to me, at
least) that the SO intallation is not too well crafted. Re
The installation CDs contain the kernel sources. Some time ago someboy
on this list mentioned that you need to install the kernel-headers RPM
also, to compile.
But maybe you were looking for a different version of the kernel than
the one included with 8.1?

Yes, with mozilla 0.99 and java plug in 1.4, it works both in linux and

Really nice simulation.

I am not an expert and have never done this in practice. Anyway...
My understanding is that PPPoE and DHCP are mutually exclusive (see also
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/DSL-HOWTO/configure.html). Which one does
your Telco use?
Assuming it is PPPoE, ifconfig should show both the ppp and the et

I just checked that site on Win2K (my Linux box is at home).
With Mozilla 0.99, JRE 1.3, the Java console reports a couple of
"*.class not found" errors and the applets do not start. When I click on
a link, mozilla crashes. So, I guess it is not a Linux-related issue.
Even worst than that, the
bingo! shows fine with JRE1.4.

I had problems running a fairly big applet in the Forte for Java 3.0
with JSDK 1.3.1: the IDE started ok, but when I tried to execute the
applet I got an "out of memory" error (on a 128Mbyte machine).
I found out that for some reason the threads-max kernel tunable was set
to 1024, which turns
