I have one of these that everything works well (even a Lucent winmodem)
except for sound. I get nothing, zip, nada, no matter what I do. Only
ALSA supposedly supports this chipset, not OSS, so my options are

short period of time and it performed flawlessly.
Did Drakx pick it up during install? It should have identified an via
8233a southbridge audio device, usually based off a crappy via sound
codec.

What's the chipset on sound? Maybe another mobo has it and it's
working there.

Note: I figured out it was a realtek chipset and as far as I understand
all realtek chipsets are supported through the v8233a module.

You know this is gonna sound stupid but really just try reinstalling the
base os. It's kinda overkill but atleast it garauntees that you
"in-theory"TM should work fine.
have you checked all the volume levels and input devices that are
connected to the computer (that are not controlled by aumix?) I

IIRC Mandrake 9.0 uses the ALSA drivers by default.

They are claiming that the 8233 chipset is fully supported and have yet
to get into hardcore details... but a point of contact is listed for the

It depends on the sound hardware. Most of the time it's ALSA. In cases
where OSS is known to work better, it will use OSS instead.

Further info. Apparently the mobo manual is wrong. It is not
speaker/line level outputs. It's line level only. So the sound was

Todd I think I found the sound thread... title is
RC3:ESD produces digital noise
Seems to be something with esd sound and alsa drivers. I know this
was on RC3 but it's possible that the problems with this sound card are
continuous.
