I currently have it setup in $home/Setiathome, $home/downloads/setiathome and
$home/documents/Setiathome. It takes about 24 - 27 hours for all three to
complete on a Duron 750 with 512meg.

Works fine for me. How are you running the client, what options are you

Okay, this may be the first point of trouble. The only thing I can download from
Seti is a tar file. No tar.gz is available. I have installed the tar file a
number of times, and always from a fresh download. I still get the same

The font server is broken (surprise, surprise). The easiest way (IMHO)
is to uninstall all font related RPM, and then run Mandrake install and
"upgrade".
One can fix this by hand, but it's normally a long process and I have
not had success with it.

You don't need one, as to get a tar.gz and unpack it into your home directory
where it should run.

Have you downloaded the last version?
