FYI: I re-installed and selected XFree86 3.3.6 instead
of XFree864.2.0 and everything is working fine.
This problem first reared it's head sometime around
mdk8.0
The videocard is identified by harddrake as
S3 Inc. Savage(generic)86C270-294 Savage/MX/IX
