Thanks for everyone's feedback. FYI: I re-installed and selected XFree86 3.3.6 instead of XFree864.2.0 and everything is working fine. This problem first reared it's head sometime around mdk8.0 The videocard is identified by harddrake as S3 Inc. Savage(generic)86C270-294 Savage/MX/IX -Mark

I have a Micron Transport GX+ laptop. In mandrake 8, 8.1, 8.2B2 and 8.2B3, X freezes frequently - usually when opening a new window or significantly updating an existing one. Is there some magic laptop-related thing I should be doing? I seem to remember in Mandrake 8 beta releases, I could not
