Kerry, I really think you should try the I-R.  I had success with it with Ginger when she had a long-term (3 week) bad URI and was not eating, and with Patches when she had pneumonia. And it sounds like Smokey has a similar  if not identical problem to Bandy's, with the intermittent fevers
