history BEFORE they come to us--even with young cats, we don't know
what diseases/illnesses they've had before, what genetic problems they
are carrying around etc. so it's hard to know which is their past and
which is the virus...

We had one, a feral we adopted to keep a male feral FIV+ company.
But I think they are usually male, because it is spread through biting and the toms bite each other when they fight.
Charlie, the FIV+ I care for at the shelter, is huge and laid back too.
