Anybody have anything good or bad to say about this older scanner (NIKON
COOLSCAN 4500AF)? I know very little about it. The tech sheet says it's
capable of 35mm at 3000ppi, and 4x5 at 1000ppi, but it doesn't say what
resolution it uses for medium format, though I suppose it's 1000ppi. Has

Vuescan 6.6.3 wasn't embedding the chosen profile in JPEGs
tonight (even with 'profile'=on) which made my efforts a bit of a
hassle.
I was using the reduced res option for "scan memory" while I
adjusted parameters for a perfect crop file, while judging the trials
with the JPEG opening

Paul,
the Canon doesnt have IR, can't talk for the Minolta.
Does either the Minolta or the Canon scanner have an IR channel for ICE?

This is a VueScan request for Ed which I send him also separately by e-mail.
After the preview-scan the slide holder goes back in the Acer ScanWit
scanner, thus protecting the slides against collecting dust and against
damaging by hand.
After finishing a normal scan the slide holder stays
Yes - its a nice scanner, and the Canon Software is ok for
getting it to do simple scanning jobs. With Vuescan I can
get a lot more out of it though. Its getting 'old' now and
Ive been expecting a new model or two from Canon but
Im not sure of its current price range w.r.t other better
models.

I believe the Canon FS2740 does have IR ... why else would Jack
Phipps (ASF) give it a "thumbs up"???

Doesn't have infrared, or at least mine doesn't..
hy else would Jack

Because for the price, it just about beats the socks anything near it's
cost, and is at least equal to scanners twice it's price :)
Guys,
I can't find any reference to CanoScan FS2740. Is this a typo?

Actually, the current model is FS2710 (unless they sneaked a new one out)

Fair comment I think. Did they do it again without charge or a fight? If so,

Opps! I gave a big thumbs up to the ACER 2740S not the Canon. It has a lot

I'm probably getting a film scanner next month. I've tentatively settled
on the Minolta Dimage Scan Dual II. I just thought I'd check in with this
list on this particular scanner, to see how well it's been received.
My application is scanning 35mm negatives, mostly color. What I like

You might do well to look at the LS-30 Nikon. Since it's being replaced,
very good deals are becoming available on it, and it includes the infared
channel for "ICE" and I have seen refurbished units for $499, although I
have no experience with them. And right out of the box, it does incredible

There's no reason to send me two copies.
Is it possible to change VueScan in a way that the slide holder returns
completely into the scanner
I just released VueScan 6.7 for Windows, Mac OS and Linux.
It can be downloaded from:

What's new in version 6.7
* Improved cleaning, both with and without infrared
* Added warning message when error writing files
or when disk is full
* Added
Where did you see the refurb for $499? I'm in the market and that's exactly
my idea - to pick up an LS-30 since the IVs are or will soon be out.

This place has great prices and came highly recommended by some other
photographers. Get the LS-30, and you won't be dissapointed.

$199 for 1800 DPI, ain't bad at all. Wow, this filmscanner list will really
be hopping. You reckon Ed will support this model? Didn't somebody a couple

Does that mean it runs with USB? Would you elaborate on "only scans from
disk files"?

Have the scan dual 11 am very satisfied with it but also have a problem with
the computer recegnizing the scanner. The only way that it will start up is
by turning it on and then dicconnecting the USB cable, and then reconnecting
it. or turning on the scanner before booting up the comp.
