I've made quite a few changes in 7.4, so I thought I'd make
beta versions for Windows, Mac OS 8/9/X and Linux available.
The most significant change is that the preview and scan
windows are updated automatically when options are changed.

Alex, the nature of your questions shows that you have significant gaps in
your understanding of the products available. This list is *not* the place

I suggest you spend time reading sites like

And then use www.deja.com
Oh sorry, you're right indeed.
I apologize for clattering the bandwidth... and thanks for the links.

Many thanks - I don't know how I missed this. I'm still a beginner learning

I'm trying to install both a Nikon 4000 and an 8000 to our system using the
firewire card that came with them on a Win2000 machine
Got the card in okay, got the 4000 installed and showing up okay.
Tried to get the 8000 to install, but the install hardware setup won't
detect it. Any suggestions
I for one find this thread fascinating, Jawed, and it is v. close to, if
'off' topic, since my Epson 2450 locks up my 1Ghz chip, 1/2 Gbyte memory
computer while it's scanning. But what do I know, I'm the dummy who
posted a question about printing here which you were all kind enough to
ignore rat

Well, to be on-topic one additional question which is related to PC
hardware: is it important to chose certain Video Adapters for further image
editing or just anyone available today will do fine ?

Correct - I bought an nVidia about a year ago (you might consider dual-monitor
capability in case you want to add a second monitor later) for about $130.

Great Ken.
Let's go off-line, OK ?
Some fellows might be pissed off if we will continue to talk on-list about
that issue.

As far as speed goes, most cards are adequate. You'd be best off buying a

There is a local but good size dealer in Cambridge, Ma that has good deals

This version of NikonScan 3 does not support multiple scanners. Please

Okay, so what if you're not using Nikonscan...?
Ed,
The automatic preview is a bit of a pain when using the crop box - each time
you move one edge slightly you have to wait for it to re-preview

It would be interesting to know if the loaner suffers from the banding in

Hi Ed et al,
I have now downloaded and used the Beta.2 version of 7.4 That said, you
have just released the Beta.3 version and I have not yet decided whether or
not I like all of the new implementations in the first Beta version. So I
can't respond other than to say that I saw no scanning problem
Great, thanks Bob. I never used it to scan prints so won't worry about it!

I'm wondering if it's advisable to clean the light path from time to time,
