filmscanners: Virus warning

2001-05-25 Thread Jim Yount
this morning, I received a virus through my E Mail. I believe that Norton successfully intercepted it, but just in case, please do NOT open any E mail that you may have received from me this AM (Friday). Since these things spread really fast, it might be wise to double check your virus protectio

Some time ago, at the request of several on this list, I published some VERY informal tests of the Epson Perfection 1640 at http://www.lauby.com/scanner The images include one photo (church picture) that Jerry was kind enough to print Piezo, with results that amazed us both. Since most of my ima

Frank, I've been getting interested in printing black and white images using the Piezography system (another list), and have recently been in touch with a contributor to that discussion group. This week, I received two of my prints enlarged to 13 x 17 printed by him. The source was scans done o

Frank, I had some trepidation about the lack of a 120 holder. So, it was with amusement and relief that I discovered Epson considers 120 film to be "brownie" film. Exact fit for 2 1/4 by 3 1/4 (if you've got smaller negs, insert a strip). I guess that means my Hasselblad is a "Swedish Brownie"

Tony, The Perfection 1640 has a 4x5 inch window for transparency adaptor, and would therefore not work for making a contact sheet from 35mm. The system uses plastic holders, keeping the film roughly 1/16 inch above the glass. Jim > Perfection 1640 What is the maximum film size this model ca

Johnny, Tim, The stated DMAX for the Perfection 1640 ($400) is 3.2. I don't have a lot of data yet, but based on experience scanning very dark images on Kodachrome 120, it may be that good (for a cheapie) or close to it. As you indicate, this is really a "dual 800" matrix CCD array, but the sca

Jules, I'm waiting for Polaroid to produce their new 120 film scanner, and have purchased a just-released Epson Perfection 1640 Photo for $395 to "tide me over". I figured it would allow me to sort my medium format negatives, using its transparency adaptor in the meantime. I have been surprised

Tim, I've been looking for a "cheapie" solution for my 120 negs, until Polaroid ships the new 4000 lpi sprintscan 120. I don't have information on the scanner you mention, but just purchased the new Epson 1640 Perfection for $400. It appears they've solved the soft focus problems that plagued t

Bruce, Just to make sure, you ARE aware of the orange shift problem with the 1270, and the metamerism problem with the 2000? Suggest you scan the Epson inkjet forum for past discussion on both subjects, if this is unfamiliar.. Epson has new printers in the pipeline in Japan. I'm waiting for th
