When you optimize staves, you can uncheck the option "Remove Empty Staves" so that the empty staves are still there, but now have the second set of handles you can use to move them around without affecting the global settings.

Thanks, David, for the work around. I was able to record a .wav file using a sound recorder I have and mail it off. Now I can take my time figuring out what the conflicts are with Finale's recorder.

Sorry for this basic question, but I always use my Korg with Finale, so I don't know how to use General MIDI very well. What is the best way to get drum kit sounds in General MIDI? My son loves to "compose" with Finale using General MIDI.
