I wrote to customer support complaining about playback (esp. of large files)
crashing Finale. This happens when using human playback. I got a quick
response with a workaround.
It seems that if you choose the human playback style as "custom" and then
deselect "final bars," it doesn't crash anymor

There isn't an automatic way to do what you want. I assume that the
speedy-entry, ctrl-3 isn't what you consider automatic.
You could enter one measure, copy it as many times as you need, then use
speedy entry to drag the pitches to where you want.
Or you could change the time signature to 4/d
