Hello, Is it possible to add a 3rd staff to two measures of an otherwise 2-staff piano composition? Even when I select the staff needing the 3rd staff, it adds a 3rd staff to the entire composition. In the event that the only way to do this is to add a 3rd staff to the entire piece, how do I

In Finale 2011 and later, optimize is gone. You still will add a third staff to the whole score, and then put your notes in. Then, in the staff tool, select the entire extra staff, right-click (control-click) on the staff's handle, and choose hide empty staves. You will still need to hide the

From: David H. Bailey What you do is to create the 3rd staff, which Finale will only allow for the entire work. Then you optimize the file and be sure to check the option to remove empty staves. This will remove all the staves except for the sytem (or systems) where you have notes entered

The vast majority of the music I do is Big Band parts. That means that while I occasionally need a full Grand Staff, most of the time I only need one stave, with Chord Changes and cues. But you can't Hide Empty Staves in a Grand Staff. And that leaves me with MUCH longer parts than are
