I believe this has been in place since Fin2007. And if you have an Apple mouse with a scroll wheel, you can just roll it horizontally to get a horizontal scroll (no shift key needed). Or, on a laptop's trackpad, you can use a two-finger swipe to get a horizontal scroll. You can adjust the

If you have a mighty-mouse, you can scroll up/down + left/right. Very handy indeed. You miss it once to go to a different computer! Also of course you can use Apple-PageUp/PageDown too to go back and forth full pages in scroll view or page view - that is very quick and saves much clicking.
