Because Dean is capable of doing that without asking on the

Well don't expect much when it comes to engraver slur improvements. They only
went after the visual aspect, not REALLY fixing the slurs. So if the slur is
loopy it will really show a loopy slur instead of never knowing until you print
it out or view it from the right view percentage. Lame.

The biggest problem with 09 expressions is that because they are not
note-attached, they do not stay with the notes when you (metrically)
move them. This comes into play most forcefully if you insert a rest
before a note, or if you answer with one of the move options coming
out of speedy with
Hey, Folks... I appreciate all the responses posted to my query.
Actually, I'm a little less concerned with what it (the newest
upgrade) CAN do on the positive side, as opposed to the degree to
which it will present me with hassles compared to my present version.
I would hate to buy it
Another thing to think about...
I haven't tested how TGTools' Smart Distribution of grouped parts or
Smart Explosion of multi-part staves works on 09 but in 08 it is a
disaster. It chokes 95% of the time. It forces me to go section by section
of an entire score (usually in 10 measure increments)
Hi Steve,
I agree this part of TGTools a problem, but you are probably better
off using Linked Parts for this function in Finale 2008 anyway.
Speaking of which, does anyone have any idea if we are ever going to
get a TGTools update for Fin2009? The lack of align-move support keeps
me in
I don't understand how Linked Parts is going to help with this
functionality. It's just not smart enough...at least not as smart as
TGTools...was...

The big advantage is that it is, well, linked. So it updates live, all
the time, instead of being dependent on explosion. Also, it *works*,
whereas the TGTools function is broken. It's not quite as smart as
TGTools used to be but that point is rather moot since the TGTools
function is not

They are beat-attached but they also check to see if there are notes
on that beat. If there are, they avoid them.

I upgrade to 2009, will it be worth it ... I've read about a ton of

I would not do it. I'm relatively unhappy with the changes to copy/paste
in 08 and quite unhappy with the changes to expressions in 09. There are
a few compensating bug fixes, so depending on what kind of music you
write it might be worth it. (I understand chords work better as to lyric
Why don't you let Dean download the demo and decide for himself?

A lot of the under-the-hood changes in 09 may very well only show their
effects deep down into projects, which is not

Yes, but the question was about upgrading from 2005, so the option of
upgrading to 2007 isn't available.

OK guys. I want to see a show of hands. I have MacFin07 and I'm
contemplating upgrading to 2008. My question: IS IT WORTH IT? Or am I
buying in to more trouble than it's worth?
I've seen so many negative things here on the List (although I
haven't monitored it every day, thus my question.

If you paste or insert data including time signature changes from

extra steps in 2008 because they revised the way music is selected and

really appreciate the candid remarks about new and old bugs. :)

Actually, 2007 has Linked Parts. And it is Universal Binary on the Mac
side (first version to be so I think).
2008 would be a good buy if you had a Mac. The Leopard support is
good, and the ability to have a quick view of docs is nice to have.
And it is stable. But, since summer is almost here,
