p.s. I started up xemacs with activity monitor open. After about 1 sec of activity, the activity monitor settled down to the same mostly idle state as before starting up. So it appears that xemacs is in a wait state, waiting for something (what?) to happen. Ron - Original Message

I'm not an expert on fink, but A couple of xemacs possibilities occur to me... [0] Open `Activity Monitor.app` and set "update frequency" to *very* often. During the wait period is xemacs consuming a lot of CPU? or is it idle? [1] Is there anything in your ~/.xemacs/ dir? * try renaming this

Thank you, I followed the instruction and now I have an xemacs. But it is excruciatingly slow to start up an xwindow; several minutes. (starting up in -nw mode inside a terminal is fine). I had the same experience installing a newer xemacs with macports. This is on a new MacBook Pro runnin
