I was trying to install Enlightenment throught Fink yesterday. I got it
going and then I ran into a problem. It was trying to download a file from
Enlightenment's ftp site. The problem was the Enlightenment group no loger
has an ftp site, at least not one I can access. I downloaded the file

I installed Enlightenment on my computer, using GNU-Darwin stuff, but it
didn't turn out right, and I didn't like what did work. I have noticed a
lot of talk about Gnome and Sawfish. I decided I will try that instead
of Enlightenment, but I have no idea what I need to download, using
fink, to
I am having the dickens of a time trying to get Gnome installed. I
probably should have read more emails on the subject when it was going
around. I removed the /sw folder in hopes that GNU-Darwin stuff was
causing the problem, then reinstalled a few things so I could operate

running. I discovered that I had the Developer Tools CD from Apple,
installed it, and now everything seems be working now. I read on
www.xdawin.org about similar problems and that gave me enough info to
find the solution.

I was reading on Fink's Faq page and it said that I should make sure
that "make" is a symlink of GNUmake. How am I suppose to do that? I have
checked the 3 books on Unix I have and there is no mention of it in the
index.

Fink's FAQ page suggested I make the "make" file a symlink of gnumake. I
did so using the "ln" command. When I tried to install dlcompat I got
this error. I am not having much luck at this.

Thanks to the help of Martin I was able to fix my compiling problem. I
had to create a symlink in /usr/local/bin for GNUmake instead of
/usr/bin. I appreciate the help novices like me receive from such lists.

have been in root via "su root" command. Is that another way to do sudo,

librarys I needed. I did so and the error of not being able to load the

How do you 'quit' applets. I launched a couple and don't know how to get
them out of my panel. I tried to use 'top' and 'kill' command but I am
not sure what this applet is called and I always kill the wrong one.
