I am unable to run XDVI. Attempting to run XDVI on a simple .DVI file
gives the following error.
% xdvi test.dvi
- mktexpk --mfmode ljfour --bdpi 600 --mag 'magstep(0)' --dpi 600 cmr10
'>&3'
setsid: Operation not permitted
- mktexpk --mfmode ljfour --bdpi 600 --mag 'magstep(0)' --dpi 600 cmr10

This is the version I got when I ran "fink install xdvi". Does fink
have the latest version of xdvi? If so, how do I install it?

Have you run 'fink selfupdate' recently? This should bring you the
newest package descriptions.

Fink, for Panther, has available:
22.77-2 in the binary distribution, as Martin said,
22.77-2 in the stable source tree
22.81-1 in the unstable source tree
You must need to update your package descriptions.
