I can't get the latest unstable arts package to get through configure.
mach/mach.h, sys/sysctl.h etc are all under /usr/include. I tried
modifying the .info file CPPFLAGS with a -I/usr/include instead of
the %p/include to no avail. I even put links /sw/include/sys back to

(Try "setenv | grep DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH" if you are running tcsh.)
My guess is that it is set to /usr/X11R6/lib, which is causing dyld to
look for the library there rather than in the place specified in
/sw/bin/display itself.

I've noticed that the tarballs for installed packages are saved in
/sw/src.
If I copy these files to the fink /sw/src directory on another machine
and the use fink to install the packages represented by these files
should I expect fink to find the files and use them in preference to

I figured as such, but will the following also work?
Can you tell me what you get from "fink list tetex" and also from
"which latex"? It shouldn't have been possible to get the error message
which you got!

Hello-
I see that you have a fink package for XFree86-4.3; nice work! I want to
upgrade ASAP, but am confused as how to do so.
It seems that xfree86-base and -rootless have been combined into the package
xfree86, and a new package was created called xfree86-upgrade. Should I
compile the new xfree

Look at "fink list gnome", and see which packages are -ssl and which
aren't. Try switching the one(s) that is/are wrong with the correct
one.

Still having a problem with gnuplot. I installed tetex-shlibs which
also required tetex-texmf. I then attempted to reinstall gnuplot and
got the error:

This is TeX, Version 3.14159 (Web2C 7.4.5)

It's not giving me any choices at this time. I don't remember having
the choice in the past but that doesn't mean I didn't.
What is the simplest way to rectify this ?
Do I need to supply more information ?

Do you have tetex-shlibs installed? If so, then you should try
reinstalling it, then update gnuplot. If that fails, rebuild
tetex-shlibs.

Now what's going on is that you're installing the fink tetex package.
This can sit side-by-side with the one you got for TeXShop--the only
major issue is disk space. You should just go ahead and remove
system-tetex in this case.
This should solve your xdvi problem, too.

It looks like you're trying to install gnome-vfs2-dev after having
already installed gnome-vfs2-ssl-dev. By any chance did you just keep
picking the default virtual dependency? IIRC one of the choices flips
the -ssl and non-ssl packages.

Hmm, I am having some mysterious breakage, maybe related to corba.
Here's a description of my setup:

This nuked /usr, and other useful directories.

This worked, thanks very much!
After "fink reinstall g77" I still got the r-base compilation error,
but after "fink rebuild g77" r-base compiled successfully. And I've
basically been able to plug in some of my old S-plus code, and R just
works.
Thanks again for your help --

If you are using Fink Commander, then you can enable it by clicking on
the Fink tab on Preferences, and activating the "use unstable packages"
button.
Otherwise, you'll want to follow the instructions at the end of Q3.9 of
the FAQ:

On Tue,
I'd suggest first trying to reinstall (fink reinstall) g77. If you
still can't install r-base, then use "fink rebuild g77".
I've put this back on the list.

Dear Alexander, David --
Many thanks for the suggestions. I went ahead and installed the Dec
2002 Dev Tools. Then "fink selfupdate"
g77 is right there in /sw/bin/ and "fink install g77" says there is
nothing to install.
Then, "fink install r-base", but it fails with exactly the same errors
