With Apple X11, I often have problems when remote connecting to linux boxes via ssh -X. The remote linux apps often die with unknown X11 events. Don't know if the xfree versions have this trouble or not. I hit this often with emacs and am always doing "emacs -nw" when editing files on remote ser
