right, thanks. i thought i had 2.5, but i just looked again, and i have
2.4... i have what came with my old version of tiger (i had installed 2.5
when i installed leopard, but then i had to kill leopard because it
doesn't support x11 fullscreen.).

There's a bug in maxima 5.17.0-5. The input I type in is:
integrate(r^(-3), r, R, inf);
The output maxima gives me (after responding that R is positive) is:
Integral is divergent
