Were you doing a binary install or a source install? If it was binary, then I believe that what happened is that apt-get selected system-tetex for you--I've had similar things happen. If, on the other hand, you were doing a source install, then you should have been prompted to pick

This was a source install in which I was not prompted to choose between system-tetx or tetex package. Instead the system as noted in my original message containing the terminal output, chose an appropriate file to meet the dependency and then an error with dpkg occured. I have included
