Just thought I'd post this story as it pertains to foaling in less than ideal
surroundings. A woman in VT breeds endangered equines. She had a Chocktaw
mare one of only 100 Chocktaws in exsistence, that was suppossed to be
foaling in July!!! The barn mana

Hi all,
Goofed on sending this through the list. Anyway - gives me a chance to
apologize and thank all for thoughts on what to do. I am definitely going
to try to get this lady to foal in that stall - I think that is the best
advice - horsi

Well not quite. Amy and I went out there. (I'd been watching the TV from
in the house only.) She was still frantic when I arrived - but by the time
Amy arrived she was eating some alf

Hi all - Nancy here. Does anyone know the dimensions of the "average" 4 wheel
cart? Ernie and I want to make sure when we get our stock trailer that if we
decide to upgrade to a 4 wheel, we'll be able to fit it in the trailer. Thanks!

Hi Gail,
I'm holding my breath! Finally the foal!
I would think that your wonderfully large stall (16'x24' is the exact size
of my whole GARAGE! and more than third larger than my little barn)) would
be the best place for her to have the foa

I think that Fjords do have tougher skin than many breeds. I know
that the vets I've seen work on mine always seem to have to give a
second, extra PUSH to get needles thru the hide.
On a few occasions, my geldings have misjudged when goi

Hi all, I just received 51 emails, mostly Fjord List. Did anyone else

Your mare seems to want to foal naturally in the field, with others nearby.
Is the vet nearby? Just a thought, you may be too concerned about
cleanliness while a horse is used to hitting the ground grubbing in it and
getting up to a healthy l

I would like to correct a misconception on the sale of my fjords at the
Small Farmers Journal auction. I sold the training time on those two
horses & the horses went with it.
I have hay to cut in 6 wk, logs on the ground to skid, & needed to change

Hi Gail:
It sounds to me like you are seeing early stages of labor in this young
mare. Some of them get pretty frantic, not understanding what is happening.
If it was my mare I'd turn her out if the area is clean. If its not, maybe
its bett

Hello Ingrid and everyone!
Yes, Renate was a maiden mare and, in our opinion, most likely too young to
have been bred, anyway. Of course, we know this is up for conjecture. She
is just turning 5 this month, so was bred at age 4.
Lynda, 9 more days!

Hi all,
Experienced foal watchers - What would you do? I am trying to decide
whether to let Luisa out of her stall while in what appears to be first
stage labor.
Luisa, is a 4 year old maiden mare. She has been pacing pretty
continuously
