Hi Dave,
If you are not familiar with enabling and disabling windows services and
getting into the registery (have to be carefull!) then I suggest you try
this program http://www.yamicsoft.com/windows7manager/index.html
There are others around but ive found that Windows7Manager seems to do a

When the discussions started on the new V/U modules there was a posting that
stated that when a Flex-5000 radio was sent in for the V/U board installation
all ECO's for the radio would be performed at that time. I was not aware that
any ECO's existed for 5000's. When I searched the Knowledge B
I should mention though that it's not just a stock install of Win7 x64 -
I've tweaked the hell out of it..
Disable the themes and every service that is not needed & some other little
things to improve speed.
Its turned it from fast to WOW..

Those are not spikes; those are just little blips :-)
What you are reporting are FANTASTIC numbers

When I checked with the DPC latency checker it spiked to about 300us but
otherwise it was around the 50 mark.
Was quite surprised at how low it was.

I want to add one comment. The SafeMode parameter really most useful for long
duration DPC "spikes". I have one PC where the average latency is less than
180 us, but I must use SafeMode1 because I have a nasty "trigger" (MS Outlook)
that when mail is received (it is the NIC card causing the DP
You are correct, a 50 year old radio may have its drawbacks but I compare them
to hard copy photos. In 50 years no digital photo will be readable. Technology
has its plusses as in the Flex. A friend saw it and preferred his knob radio.
No way I prefer my IC-756PROIII over the Flex. But my first
I tend to agree,
After I got my Flex3k I ran installed as per the quickstart guide (only
exception putting win in test mode) and it installed fine. No tricks, no
messing about..
I am running windows 7 Ultimate x64
Dual core 3.2ghz
4gig ram
Cheap-ish firewire card
I might take it out of 'safe mod
Tim and others,
I am not sure what changes that MS made with the Official Release that
allows the current driver to function under Win7, at least 32 bit,
from the paperwork from MS, the Windows FW driver was a complete
re-write and would require a new driver.. From my testing and others,
Just a quick update still no problems with the Flex and associated software.
I did run into a problem with my Brother 420CN printer. The OS and software
from MS would work with it just fine via USB but the Brother control
software just would not see the USB device. Switched the Brother software
fro
Neither do I, but does it really matter? In 50 years I'll be dead (or unable
to operate) and way before that time something else better will have come along
and I'll be using it. I didn't buy my SDR with the intent of it being a
mainstay in my shack in 2059. No radios with ICs will be usable
AS much as I like Flex I cannot imagine it functioning in 50 years as did a
hams rig I just worked, he was using a HQ-110 and HT-37

I see what you are saying, Alan. The language is a bit ambiguous. I
will clarify this with Greg when he returns to the office on Monday.

Bad news about the change to the V/U module spec. Being outside the US, and
not wanting to be without the radio for an extended period or risk shipping
it, I would've gone for the self-install 30W version. Looks like I've just
been converted from a good sale prospect into "definitely not a sale

There is no change to the specs for the V/U module. The 30W version (and
others) is available as a special order as indicated in Greg's e-mail last
night and the thirty or so e-mails I sent yesterday.
Depending on what version you purchase it MAY OR MAY NOT be able to be

This is not really a glitch. It is the way that N1MM is designed, & it is
working as intended.
N1MM is designed to grab the focus any time that the frequency of either VFO
changes of if the operating mode (CW, SB, etc.) of the radio changes. Any
action in any other application (including PowerSD
Stu, k6tu has seen a similar problem. Caused me to look at sdr some more . I
found that n1mm loses focus for one character in the following sdr

change moniter, change span? From .5x to 1x . So as an example qrm gets

Well, well Isn't that a pleasant surprise.
Should we resend the recommendation to change the Win7 1394ohci bus drivers(s)
from the native driver to the legacy one?
