Randy,
There are some challenges with laptops that you don't have with a
desktop of the same vintage. First you have slower processors, slower
bus speeds and fewer ways to add extra interfaces, like an external
FireWire port. You can find some models of HP, Sony, Apple, Lenovo,
and eve

software supports it too.
Olivia busts through QRN like you wouldn't believe. You can decode signals
you can't even hear.. down to about 26db below the noise.

Good question. Also, it seems like psk31 activity has dropped a bit; at
least on 20M. I don't think it's just due to the SS cycle...

I use Olivia on 1.838 USB. Call on the standard freq. and offset. 1.838
USB center tone 750 Hz.
That way we can find you even though we can't see you in the noise.
I've worked 16 countries like this so far using only a 60 ft. vertical.

Holy Cow! I expect to put up a 2nd antenna in the near future. That
should give me some real diversity!

I run Win7/64 with no problems, but I am using the special test Firewire
driver that Flex provided for me to test with.
I don't think there's any reason not to use 64-bit as long as the hardware
drivers are available in 64 bit versions,
which a stock laptop would already have with it.

Randy,
Your assumption that FlexRadio software does not "play well" with Win7 is
totally untrue. Especially the upcoming PowerSDR v2.0.0 release which has been
specifically modified to work with Vista and Win7 x64. The FLEX Firewire
drivers are signed and come in both the 32 and 64-bit flavo
I finally installed the 2nd receiver in my F5K. Wow! What a fabulous
feature. With the 2nd receiver, I can work 40 meters, and watch for a
band opening on 15M or 10M.
When I turn "multi receive" on, I can hear both frequencies when I work
split, and still monitor another band for an opening
I recently went shopping for a new laptop. I looked at quite a few of them
but in EVERY case they came pre-loaded with Windows 7, 64-bit. 7/32 was not
an option. It looks to me that soon, except for custom-assembled systems,
everything off the shelf will be that way.
I am waiting for my first F

And if your MB has the ability to select a bootable HD via the bios, you can
keep your XP image and boot between the two OS. This way you can experiment
with W7, and still have access to XP.
