I do not know of an existing tool or utility that could perform what you want, but it would be possible to write something utilizing the Power Management API to detect a running application and switch to a different Power Scheme (one that has all sleep functions disabled for example). I have

Bob, One good way is when you are done operating and just before you walk away, just go to the Start button of Windows and click Standby, this will put the computer in the lowest power usage, and not be powered off. Your display should be also drop into power saving mode at that same time
