If plugging the firewire into the port on the FLex shorts out that port does it
also have the same effect on the computer end? I know I didn’t force the
connection on the Flex but the results were the same...back to Flex for
repair...but now do I have to be concerned about the port on the
i don't know what the li'l green led is for, either, but it does NOT
indicate correct function. I got a defective cable from Granite (they
replaced it without question) and the green light shone brightly the whole
time it was plugged in and I was cursing.

Just for the heck of it I switched over to the ³legacy² driver for my
firewire port (FYII am connected to the Flex-3000 through my Fujitzu
laptop). I noticed that on the DPC test I am getting (seemingly) about a
25-30% reduction in time (or said another way, a 25-35% boost in
throughput). Any
What operating system are you using?

The LED only indicates that it is getting power FROM the host bus controller
(Firewire card) and not that you have it plugged into the Firewire device
correctly.
My suspicion is that the Firewire card is probably OK.

Ah, good question (and I should have noted that), Win7 (Home Premium
Edition).

The yes, use the legacy driver (which is actually the Vista driver) by all
means. There is a bug in the new Win7 1394 drivers that manifests itself as
several problems; the excessive DPC and CPU load is one of them.

Does the recommendation to use the legacy driver also apply to us
Win7-64bit users?

But if you have a chip-vendor specific driver (like the TI driver), do you
still think we should use the legacy driver?

IF you're NOT using a Windows-supplied 1394 host controller driver, AND the
vendor-supplied driver is working for you, THEN there's no reason to change it.
IF you ARE using the new Windows 7 1394 driver, I would recommend that you
switch to the legacy driver. I've seen enough problems with

it doesnt play that way for me. win7 32 pro. using mother board
If you get better performance from the Win7 vendor specific driver, then use
it. In a majority of cases the Win7 vendor driver performs worse than the
legacy with the FLEX Firewire driver. Looks like you have the exception.

I'm a new Flex 5000A user and have found that there is a significant delay
in HRD keying the Flex so about a short line of text is sent before the PTT
actually engages transmitter. Suggestions?

Yes. Don't use CAT to key the radio. Use a (virtual) serial port.
If you are just using the log book and DM780, you can use MiniDeluxe to provide
the CAT interface. http://vhfwiki.com/minideluxe
This is a well-known problem with HRD. Other digital mode programs don't
exhibit this behavior.
Not sure why it's doing that to you. I just went through the six
bandstacks I have on 15M, changing each as I went along (by 1kHz). They all
remained changed when I went back through... no reverting.

Found it. I had entered a new bandstack and marked it as being 160 meters
