The suggested 5KA hardware reset along with the earlier database reset and
reboot seems to have solved this problem.
Also of note is that just preceding this situation, no audio was coming from
the radio -- not from the headphone jack, nor the rear speaker jack (Yes, I
did try adjusting setting

Do a hardware reset. Leave it off for 15-20 minutes.

If you did a DB reset, test before importing info or doing too many custom
changes to the DB.
