Hi guys
The one thing almost everyone who buys a computer from me is interested in
is remote control of their new Flex radio! I honestly would guess 75% or
more are planning to do this.
Subscribing, as I do, to a lot of computer builder magazines, I read
recently about an ethernet card called
umm maybe your timing statements are off by a factor of 10^3 ?? I
see performance on the BigFoot site listed in milliseconds, not
microseconds...

Okay, but still the question stands, is anyone doing this and have they seen
any reduction, for instance, in skype latencies for audio?

Hi all,
Seeing Neals post reminded me of something.
Someone asked me how do people turn the rig on and off when using remote.
I am curious as well as to how everyone is achieving this?
Tnx

I use this remote power switch. The fan is noisy at times, but otherwise it
works well.

I set up a dynamic dns host name and opened a port on my router so that I

Hi FLEXERS,
I want to find the appropriate CW settings for my FLEX-1500.
I am now running PowerSDR V. 2.0.16.
My computer uses Windows XP-pro, Service Pack 3.
When I try using my paddles (or my paddles and my external keyer with a foot
switch) the sending is erratic, and doesn't send out the

You wouldn't. The latency on the local LAN is far less than the latency and
The latency its addressing is inside the computer!
I read they are bypassing the Windows internet stack(?) and have the
equivalent of a Xbox360, processing-wise, handling the I/O.

I would add... in situations where bulk throughput needs to be

Project X-Kernel by Prof. Larry Peterson. (this has nothing to do
with X-Windows from MIT).
The difficulty being addressed in the X-Kernel has to do with data
I'll also add several other thoughts on this topic:
1. The BigFoot marketeers have made a very careful re-definition of
latency in their claims. To me, an end user, latency measures the
delay for a response to a request. That includes the portion they
call latency, which pertains only to
Since the premise for this card is multi-player gaming (and not being a
gamer at all), I wonder what the nature of gaming communication is? Is it
just voice communications or is it more complex? Ping is a particularly poor
test of anything except connectivity and its questionable why it would be
HI Neal,
I'm not a gamer either. But if I were, and I were programming such a
system, I would probably seek to implement a form of distributed
shared-memory, which holds the game state at every participant's
node. In that case, I would pound on the code to make it as thin as I

Hi Carter,
Where do you have the audio buffers set on the SetupAudio tab? You should
set them to the lowest size that provides stable audio.

I am sitting here running the VHF contest on top of a mountain in Alabama.
I have been running the Flex-1500 for most of the evening driving an
Elecraft 2M transverter. The transverter is being driven through the
XVTX/COM for both transmit and receive. I have the key line coming out

I have observed this same operation. As a result I had to just use
the PA output on the 1500 for 6M during the contest. If I switched to
xvtr/com the power out went to zero. Reboot/restart of SDR was the
only cure for me as well. Also using 2.0.16 on 64bit win7.
SDR worked just fine on 6M as
