I do not run an external keyer on my 1500 and typically run 25-35 wpm in
contests. I must have it set right.
There is no such limitation on some maximum speed on the 1500 of 15 wpm that I
have experienced. Bob, NZ5A

Bill, you said you have a 5K and you use it entirely for VHF, 6 and 2 meters
plus 70 cm.
I have been wanting to use my 1500 for 2 and 70 cm as well to replace my
TS-790a since the Flex is outstanding on HF and 6. Do you use transverters on
the 5K and, if so, what kind?
Thanks. Bob. NZ5A, Ma
Hi,
I have previously owned and used a 3000 and a 1500 with success and enjoyed the
experience.
Recently, I acquired a 5000 with second RX and ATU.
It performs as expected except for one small thing:-
One of the Firewire ports doesn’t seem to function in that the PC doesn’t
recognise it.

The Flex 1500 is an excellent little radio. I originally reviewed it in QRP
Quarterly about a year ago. I liked it then, and I still like it, after having
it in the shack for over a year. It is remarkably small, and takes up very
little room on the operating bench.
When it first came out,
Hi Don,
Been caught out with this one a few times myself!
With each new version of PSDR the setting for the buffering gets changed
such that the filters aren't very good
on CW, you can hear signals miles either side of the filter width, it
can be fixed easily enough though.

Hello group
I would like to understand the front end atchitechure of the Flex. I'm
talking HW here, not DSP.
Does it have hardware level roofing filters in the front end?
Also, how different in quality is the RCVR in the 1500 vs the 5000?
Thanks,

I echo what Ken says.
I have been a Flex 5000A owner for about 3 years and use it with a Dell
Dimension E-520 Duo Core computer - nothing special. Of course it does have
FireWire card. I run XP and will continue to do so as long as I can. I have
not noticed any latency problems on CW.
Many, Many Thanks for all the responses. I really appreciate the inputs.
I've downloaded the PowerSDK and currently running it in the demo mode.
I'll continue to get up to speed and go from there. Thanks again.

Hi Martin,
One of the main differences between a Flex 1500 and the 3000 or 5000 is that
the 1500 communicates with your computer via a USB cable. The 3000/5000 both
use Firewire, and they can be particular about which Firewire chipset is used.
As far as putting a load on the computer is conce
Hi Marty
The Flex 1500 is a fine QRP rig, with an amazing receiver. I think you will be
happy with it, however it does have limitations with CW
I think it has to do with the use of a slow USB cable to transfer the data
between
the rig and computer that causes latency problems. I have no problem
Marty,
If you can do a computer upgrade, this would be a great time to do it. Maybe
building your own or getting one of Neal's systems (if you are not into
building a PC) would be a better way to go. Before buying my Flex, I built a
2.5 gHz Quad-core system fairly cheap and added the appropria

Good Morning,
I recently had to part with my radio and decided that this was a good time
to bring my station into the 21st century.
I have a couple questions, so please bear with me.
At the moment, I'm leaning toward the Flex 1500. Reasoning: my computers are
old (Dell 530 and a couple of HP (wi
Hello
It's been a while since I operated any cw but I noticed today that my filters
don't seem to be as sharp as I remember them. I normally use a 250 or 500Hz
filter. Today I centered on a signal at 7.060.000 and selected a 250Hz filter.
The signal I was copying was about 2S units above the ba
Nick,
In the FM mode, the tail of the packet gets truncated. Go into the MixW
Mode Settings menu, Parameters, and set the TX Tail to 200 ms. That should
get you going. Once you are, you can experiment with smaller values.
Depending on sample rate and buffer sizes, you may be able to cut that do
I am trying to configure mixw to do packet with the Flex 5000 and xp. I
have psk31 ant rtty running but having trouble with packet on vhf .I can
receive packets but I can not transmit. Any suggestions.
