Ok, got it, pin 8 is just a shunt diode. This clears things up.

Dave,
The pin 8 diode connection should go to the (+) side of the power supply
which in your description is also the bottom of the ice cube coil. The
top of the coil goes to pin 7. This puts a diode across the coil with
its cathode to the (+) side and the anode to the (-) side of the coil

This is confusing to me. My kw's big 112 volt ac clapper relay is keyed
by an ice cube relay (12volt dc at apx 50ma.). The (+) lead from the 12
volt supply goes to the bottom of the ice cube relay coil. The (-) lead
from the supply is grounded. I key the kw by shorting the top lead from
the ice

For completeness I should have added: you should only need to use two pins:
Pin 7 - connect to the Titan PTT connector center pin
Pin 15 - connect
Jon,
As Jeff said the pin 8 protection diode should not be needed for the
Ten-Tec Titan amp because of its transistor keying.
What is the other amp with the 12 volt DC relay? Does it have a back or
protection diode across the relay coil inside the amp? If it doesn't
have a back diode then yo

Hi Jon,
I'm not familiar with the Ten-Tec Titan amp, but try disconnecting pin 8
from pin 7.
Pin 8 is the cathode connection for the protection diode in the SDR's
ULN2003 driver chip (a
's driver from inductive kickback. The
ULN2003A's open-collector driver should work just fine just as it is.
Let me know how it goes!

The Flex works fine with a Ten-Tec Titan but on a different amp it keys
the amp but doesn't unkey. If I disconnect the keyline from the amp
and plug it back in or power cycle the amp it unkeys.
The Ten-Tec has transistor keying. This second amp has a 12V relay
drawing 28 mA, keyed by groundin
