FWIW, the 'dead man' timer relay I'm using now is one of these kits:
http://www.electronickits.com/kit/complete/elec/ck1614.htm
It can be set for any length you could possibly want.
(I first used an old Allen Bradley octal TD relay I had at work, but
that was kinda unwieldy).

What other rigs NEED that? :-)
All kidding aside, come to think of it, with almost all rigs using
microcontrollers for their control, it strikes me that ALL rigs need that.
OTOH, it is not at all unusual for me
ou use WebSwitch() Plus with
BASIC scripts to implement your 'dead man'?

Thanks Steve
The house is new construction and only 11 years old, so a SDR-smitten SK
seems unlikely :-)
I can confirm the VOX is/was off.

FWIW, to protect my 3000 remote station I use a 'dead man'
delay-on-operate relay which is triggered by the TX relay in the Flex
(linear amp key). If the TX relay is closed for more than 5 minutes,
the time delay relay pulls in and shuts the power off to the radio for
10 seconds, assuring QRT.

"I doubt PSDR would respond to a CAT command to stop transmitting. "
Actually, if TX was initiated by a CAT command (ZZTX or TX), it would
respond to a ZZRX or RX command.

One possible explanation is that your house was, at one time, owned by a
radio amateur who went SK. Imagine a guy from the 1930s who only operated a
transmitter using high voltage coils and De Forest valves coming across a
Flex 5000 during one of his haunting episodes. :)
Or, closer to reality,

Butprobably not if the radio was hung up due to some software
glitch.

Would be nice for PowerSDR to include a timer that would prevent
transmitting after a set time period.

On 3 occasions I've returned to my shack to find my Flex-5000A transmitting
with no one at the controls! Luckily it was SSB and with no modulation the
signal was negligible. In each case, I stopped PowerSDR and shut down the
F5K and everything started back up normally.
