Jim, I understand the complexity you describe and in the past, have pondered what could be done to fix the problem. Today when reading this thread and especially your reply, it dawned on me that the "surprise frequency change" problem is most prevalent, though not restricted, to contesting.

Why not just turn off the enable short cuts during a contest? You don't use it anyway if your using N1MM logging, (it's what I do, I finally learned). The logging program handles any frequency changes you need to make. Prevents the jump into never never land with no loss of program functionalit
