I've never been able to run FlightGear with the Nouveau drivers. Nouveau is fine for desktop/2d level graphics and probably handles the gnome desktop type effects just fine, but for high performance 3d graphics and running FlightGear, it's hard to beat the actual Nvidia official drivers. On
