I have had that error message when importing XML files in FrameMaker
8.0p277, and it appears that one of FrameMaker's structured documents
(for entity formats?) hasn't been updated for a while.
To resolve the error message:
1. Launch FrameMaker and select File Open
Specify the file:

My company is thinking about purchasing FrameMaker 9. We currently use
FrameMaker 7.1. Management would like writers to have both versions on their

I've installed two different versions with no problems in the past.
Just specify different install directories.

Yes you can run multiple versions of FM on the same machine, but only the
latest copy of Distiller. Make sure that you clean out all versions of
Distiller before installing the new one.

Hi Gary
I've got Fm 9, 8, 7.2, 7.0 and 6, all on the same computer (XP, SP3). And
sometimes, I've got multiple versions running at the same time. No problems
here.
Just make sure you test Save as/Print to PDF. This may be a problem,
depending on your version of Acrobat.

Gary,
I've got 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 8.0 and 9.0 on my virtualized Windows XP machine with
no issues. I run several plug-ins including FrameScript and PatternStream in
each version (also without issue).
Thanks,
Brad

Thanks, Rick. You've saved me a lot of time trying different things.
This project doesn't warrant spending that much of my own money (I buy all my

In maker.ini, change DontShowWelcomeScreen=Off to On. I believe you can
either change this in the FrameMaker program directory to affect everyone,
or put it as a line in C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application
