Hi Fred,
When you place the insertion point directly after a word and
before a space and start typing regular characters, FM inserts
the characters in green. As expected.
When you then enter a space, FrameMaker overwrites the existing
space (if you have Smart Spaces activated). That way the
I need to make a framemaker file with a toc in the same file as the

my toc as a standalone file inserted in the book file, but that won't do
this time. I need to have the generated list in the content file itself.

Hi Björn,
Just make the file as usual and then import it into the content file.
And remove its reference from the Book file. I believe there are some
instructions to be found in the Help.

I think my first question would be if FM 8 isn't offered for sale anywhere
because it's not a supported release, how you'd upgrade...
And I was curious about why you think 9 has a buggy interface... after a
year in use and three patches, it's at least as stable as 7.1 and quicker.
Not to mention
I've watched the threads with interest, Nancy, and did the 30-day eval
last spring. I know there are a few aggravations, but as soon as we can
spring for TCS 2 here, I'm going to FM 9 and the rest and not looking
back. All in all, life will be easier and more productive.

I wouldn't call the interface buggy. The only bugs popping to mind are one
caused by dragging tab stops on the ruler instead of applying them in the
paragraph designer, and some issues with Save as PDF. The first bug

Hmmm ... I just upgraded to FrameMaker 9, downloaded all the patches and opened
a file that was fine in FrameMaker 8 just yesterday.

I get this on the console window when opening the file:
You're going to find it interesting locating a copy of Frame 8. It's

I don't think that IE has any direct impact on FrameMaker at all, so you
Sounds like the most likely fix is to check the FM application files to make
sure that they point to the right paths. On top of that there is also the
potential to review the RW to see where it is. The default STRUCTDIR is
based on the install, so if there is a direct copy/paste that someone did
Hi,
How are you doing these days?

It is amazing that the products have competitive price and high-quality.
I have bought some items from this site, and i am very satisfied with their

Hi Bj?rn
There are two ways to "cook this chicken":
1. You can generate a TOC file and import that one "by reference" into your
Fm file. This TOC will then be a text inset which you can update. This is
the "standard" way of creating "chapter TOCs" (aka "mini TOCs" or "local
TOCs") in FrameMaker.
We're using FrameMaker 7.1 on XP with SP3. I've been offered the opportunity to
upgrade at work. The wikipedia summary of Frame 8.0 says "FrameMaker 8
