I completely agree with Rick .. assuming you know that you're going to
use XML and you're going to be modifying an existing structure
application. This is a great way to learn the basics from the ground up
and the bigger apps will make a bit more sense.

I'd be very grateful if a few of my colleagues here could try a quick
mif2go save and see if you get the DCL not found error.

And if you do find a fix, let us know, just in case someone else runs into
the same issue.

Hi, I am going to offer a contrary opinion. I wouldn't start with DocBook,
DITA, or any existing applications. I would create a simple, custom
application to get my feet wet. I do this when I train clients, even if they
are using DITA, etc. It helps them to digest the concepts with a small

It sounds like you need to read up on the fundamentals of DITA. Would be
more informative than what you'll likely get from this list. This is a
good place to start ..

Yep. Fred's right. Which is (one of the many reasons) why Rick's plugin is
so damned handy. It'll update all the cell formats and you can alter all
the table widths.

But note that not all properties of a table format are applied to an existing
table when you change it to a new format. Column widths, in particular, are not
changed after the fact; the column widths that are part of a table format are
only the defaults that are applied to a *new* table. Same th
Oh, yes, and it's possible that Rick Quattro's TableCleaner plugin would be
useful. It has a few commands to do with applying one cell's (or table's)
properties across all the tables in a single document. Highly recommended!

Are you trying to change all the tables in a document from one table tag to
another table tag, or are you trying to update all the properties of a
particular table tag?
If the first, you can do it using the Global Update option.

Hi,
Just wanted to know if there is a way to apply the table properties through the
"Copy Special" option for a table tag in FrameMaker.
Right now, I am handling a migration work where the existing content has to be
transformed to a different template. For which, this option would be handy.

Theresa,
To learn all this stuff more efficiently you should buy Kay Ethier's book "XML
and FrameMaker" and work through it. This book is slightly out of date and
things are now more streamlined in the newer versions of Framemaker, but it
gives a very clear idea of what is necessary to set up a
