I try to work in Unicode whenever I’m straying outside of the realm of 8-bit
characters as each app has its own weird shortcuts.
In Frame’s find box the syntax \u works, with each # representing the hex
digit in Unicode.
So, for endashes, use \u2013. Unicode values can be easily
The unicode code for combining (i.e. zero-width) circumflex is hex 0302, and it
should follow the character it appears above. If you don't have a unicode entry
method handy, using Frame's replace function - "W" with "W\u0302" - will get
you the code, BUT, you need the circumflex to be declared
I used DTP Tools' MIF Filter, an InDD plug-in, a few years ago to get a 20-page
fm doc into InDesign, and it did pretty well.
It displays the conversion and then you save it, and you're charged only upon
save. So if a conversion goes badly, you're not out anything. It would be
worth a try.
