will call them Book 2, Book 3, Book 4, Book 5, and Book 6. I also have a
Book 1, which contains
Page size might be one reason to split a chapter.
When I run into this problem I modify the header to use a cross-ref to the
previous file to capture the Header/Footer variable info.

Do you have some compelling reason to split
variable in
the header or footer layout.

I have a book that uses the variable Running H/F 1 in my footer that
picks up Chapter Title.
The hierarchy is Chapter Title, Heading 1, Heading 2, etc,.
The problem is, for the sections that follow Chapter Title that start with
Heading 1, the variable displays blank.
