I suspect that the kernel option "ICMP_BANDLIM" is not included in "FreeBSD
5.3 RC1".
The response after the command "config MYKERNEL" is:
'MYKERNEL: unknown option "ICMP_BANDLIM"'

tem that might cause thist type of behavior? it doesn't seem to be the
hardware - my laptop is a pentium M centrino system with a bg nic, and
they're old Celeron 500 machines with fxp nics.

I have some servers with IPMI that allow me to have a serial console. I have
setup a serial console config on my servers and it seems to work reasonably
well in remote emergencies, but causes serious problems if I ever have to use
the real console.
It means that I can't use single user mode fr

production server running (ouch) 4.9 :(
Originally I simply ran newfs -L. later i tried many things like using
another box (which actually had sysinstall unlike the 4.9) and slice and
partition and label the disk over again. s
Does the version in /usr/ports/net/wireshark require X11 to run, or can it be
run from the command line with straight text output?
(I dont have/want X on the servers).

You can use tcpdump and bring the dump file to your local machine where
you can use wireshark.

I added the following to the top of my wine config file and the
stoppable errors went away.

How does one cause rc.conf to be reread without rebooting? Under linux I would generally
do "source somefile.conf". But if I do "source rc.conf", I'm told that all my settings are

Does anyone know if this PCI wireless network card can be utilized in
FreeBSD 4.9. I can't find it in the supported hardware list but there is a
note that ISA cards are supported the same as the pccards. Being that
Linksys makes a WPC11 I was hoping that the WMP11 was just a PCI version of

IPFW box (The port forwarding can be done with the DSL router) - SSH
isn't currently listening on that interface, I'll get to that later :)
Does this sound like a reasonable ruleset? Is anyone willing to help me
generate it?

Xavier, you should attempt to install the package from the ports tree.
FreeBSD uses the ports tree much like mandrake uses RPM files. The
difference of course is that RPM files are binary packages while the
ports tree simply provides a makefile which will fetch the source,
configure and compile

My first thought is to check your BIOS, and try enabling/disabling any
"auto config" features associated with this port. In my experience, ppc0

AFAIK, you cannot have more than one default gateway, unless you are
using netgraph to balance between network interfaces. However, you could
NAT C & D to their respective "public" interfaces.
My suggestion would be to use tcpdump to examine the data flow. Watch
what your browser sends to the http proxy, and then watch what htc sends
to it. Probably will be different. Obviously htc thinks it is talking
directly to hts, and thus is not speaking proper "http proxy" protocol.

I was upgrading from 4.10-STABLE to 5.4-STABLE, following the
instructions in the freebsd handbook and something went wrong.
I used CVSup to update my sources. I built the world and kernel as follows:
cd /usr/src
make buildworld && make buildkernel
I am using the GENERIC config. I had to copy
