I'm currently using FreeBSD 5.3 with the NVIDIA GeForce2 MX video card. I
have downloaded the NVIDIA-FreeBSD-x86-1.0-6113.tar.gz file and unziped it
to /NVIDIA-FreeBSD-x86-1.0-6113. After following the instructions from the
FreeBSD Handbook and NVIDIA install.txt I get the following

Sounds like there's no kernel source in /usr/src/sys on your machine.

A while ago I emailed this list regarding my network interfaces stop
responding when I am running x windows.
I have now installed the latest nvidia drivers on FreeBSD 4.8-RC and I
have found that it is indeed those drivers that causes that.
I have two dc type cards in my box

Looking at /var/log/Xorg.0.log I see these entries. My max resolution
is "1600x1050" but it is not letting me use it.

I have the same card, you can find drivers for it in the
/usr/ports/x11/nvidia-driver directory.

i've been using the nvidia drivers on riva tnt2 and geforce2 mx400 and
every tiem i installed the drivers on the nvidia site. worked perfectly
every time and except for the kernel options no other tweaking was

Setting up a new system here and the nvidia module will not load on
system startup.
In the /boot/loader.conf I have placed nvidia_load="YES" as I found in
the instructions, but still no good.
After a system start-up I have to manually load up nvidia using
kldloader.

I know of a few EDID issues with the current nvidia driver. are you
using freebsd-7-CURRENT?
Try adding Option "UseEDID" "FALSE" to the Screen section in your X
configuration file. Hopefully future NVIDIA X driver versions should do
a better job of detecting invalid EDIDs.

This is a known issue with all nvidia cards and xorg 7.3... nvidia
should release an updated driver very soon... until then to get some
possible hints do a search of this list for nvidia issues.

Ok, it seems like a driver bug. Tested on linux and the results are:
Linux 2.4.22 nvidia v1.0-4363 : not working
Linux 2.4.22 nvidia v1.0-4496 : working
FreeBSD 5.2RCs nvidia v1.0-4365 : not working
so eventually something got fixed in the driver for my card,
but has not been backported
ee86. The fact that NVIDIA provides a driver that allows 3D acceleration
is just the icing on the cake. (I suppose cool 3D games would be the
analogous candles.)

I want to know if a change in the X server will affect my video drivers, i
have a nvidia video card(GeForce2) i download the drivers from the nvidia
site(I WANT 3D ACCELERATION!!!) for FreeBSD now my question is If y change
from XFree86 to X what happens with the drivers?

I can't make the second ethernet card work...
I don't have any special kernel config, just added the latest nvidia
video driver (version 4365) from the ports tree.

I recently noticed (while updating my ports) that attempting to unload
the nvidia driver causes the kernel to panic.
I can load/unload other modules without a problem. If I kldunload
nvidia, it immediately panics with a fatal trap
