I would like to mount an SSL enabled WebDAV filesystem with FreeBSD as a
filesystem.
I can successfully mount WebDAV/ssl with gnomevfs2 using the nautilus2
GUI, but then the filesystem does not seem to be accessible as a mounted
filesytem that is known to the BSD

mod_dav is part of the official Apache 2.X web server distribution.
Just install Apache 2.X and you have it :)

Depends what you want?! A client or a server? Since the server question was
already answered I recommend KDE's Konqueror as a client. I like it. Of
course it's a little overkill to install KDE if you just want to access
